Meet the Instructors Our instructors work across all of our clubs. Click on the play button to see a technique performed by the instructors. All our instructors are First Aid Qualified and Enhanced DBS checked and have trained for a minimum of 6 years to attain their Senior Black Belt status.
Paul Gunning – Senior 6th Dan (Rokudan) Paul Gunning has trained in martial arts since 1982, most of his training has been in the Taijutsu 30+ years, Fu Jow Pai (Tiger Claw Kung Fu) for 8 years, Aikido for 2 years, Lau Gar Kung Fu for 2 years and Boxing. He has also trained with Sensei Ron Zediker 7th Dan, who teaches Toyama-ryu style of sword. He achieved his Senior 1st Dan in Taijutsu in Nov 1989, his 2nd Dan in Dec 1994, his 3rd Dan in Apr 1999, his 4th Dan in Apr 2005, his 5th Dan in Jan 2011 and his 6th Dan in Mar 2017. He now circulates around all the clubs but is often found at the Okey Dojo.
Clare Gunning – Senior 4th Dan (Yondan) Clare Gunning has trained in the Taijutsu since 1990 achieving her 1st Dan in July 1997, her 2nd Dan in June 2003, her 3rd Dan in Dec 2010 and her 4th Dan in Mar 2017. She is now incharge of all administration and also circulates around all the clubs as a when she can, she is also often found at the Okey Dojo.
Chris Robson – Senior 2nd Dan (Nidan) Chris Robson began training with Sensei Paul Gunning, achieving his Senior 1st Dan in April 2007 and his 2nd Dan in Oct 2017. He is currently training at Barnet College Dojo on Thursdays. He is also qualified as a Lifestyle coach and gym and fitness instructor.
Tony De Freitas - Senior 2nd Dan (Nidan) Tony De Freitas has trained under Sensei Chris Robson and then under Sensei Paul Gunning attaining his Senior Black Belt in May 2009 and his 2nd Dan in Oct 2017. He is currently training at Barnet College Dojo on Tuesdays and Saturdays and Princes Risborough Dojo on Mondays and Thursdays. He is also running several after school clubs for Children in the Barnet area along with our custom Self Defense courses. He is also qualified as a gym and fitness instructor.
Alex Turton – Senior 2nd Dan (Nidan) Alex Turton began training with Sensei Paul Gunning, achieving his Senior 1st Dan in March 2006 and his 2nd Dan in Oct 2017. He is currently training at Barnet College Dojo on Thursdays and the Terriers, High Wycombe Dojo on Wednesdays, he is also running Self Defense courses in Westminster and at local schools. He is also qualified as a gym and fitness instructor.
Navin Gunawardena – Senior 2nd Dan (Nidan) Navin Gunawardena has trained with Sensei Paul Gunning since 2001 achieving his Senior 1st Dan in May 2009 and his 2nd Dan in Oct 2017. He has also trained in Tai Kwon Do acheiving black belt status in this style. He is currently training at Barnet College Dojo on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
